COCOVINA broke ground on its Vietnamese coconut processing facility on June 15, 2011. The greenfield facility, located on the banks of the Mekong River, represents a six million U.S. dollar investment ($6,000,000.00), and sets a new standard in coconut processing.
The Land of the Coconut
Located in Ben Tre province, “the land of the coconut”, the facility utilizes state-of-the-art equipment coupled with a high-tech, proprietary production system, in order to provide maximum production efficiency with minimal downtime.
The facility will have the largest capacity in the region, with the ability to process over 4,000.00 tons of long coconut fiber, and over 8,000.00 tons of cocopeat per month, from which over 5,000.00 tons of 5 kilo cocopeat blocks are formed. The facility is designed for 24/7 production, with no interruptions due to the rainy season.
“Our goal was to bring together the latest in technologies and expertise to build a facility having capabilities unique in the industry, and we are excited as our efforts have been realized, with production commencing.” says Mr. Du Duong, general manager for Cocovina.
The facility is designed to utilize byproducts from this and other agricultural processes to fuel over 90 percent of its energy requirements, providing sustainable production while significantly lowering the facility’s carbon footprint, when compared to conventional systems.
